When a Cup of Tea Becomes a Form of Vietnamese Branding

As international economic integration deepens, building and affirming a national brand is no longer an option but an essential requirement for every economy. In Vietnam, Vietnam Brand Day on 20 April each year is not only an occasion for celebration but also a moment to look back on the persistent efforts of the business community to raise the value of Vietnamese goods, spread cultural identity and strengthen their position in the global market. In this current, many brands have chosen a path of development grounded in national culture, treating it as a foundation for building distinctiveness and increasing competitiveness.
Within this picture, the story of DoiDep tea points to a noteworthy approach. Rather than seeking distinction by moving away from familiar values, DoiDep builds on a foundation deeply rooted in Vietnamese life: tea, long present in daily routines, in memory and in social customs, is approached by the brand as a cultural value to be preserved and enriched, rather than merely a consumer product.
Originating in the tea region of Bao Loc, Lam Dong province, DoiDep is closely tied to one of the country's key tea-producing areas. The cool climate, stable humidity and distinctive basalt soil give the region an advantage in developing high-quality teas, especially Oolong tea. Building on these natural advantages, the company has set a clear direction, making raw materials, soil and cultivation practices the core foundation of its reputation.

Beyond improving product quality, DoiDep also focuses on broadening the role of tea in contemporary life. Through “Ngu Thuc Viet Tra”, tea enjoyment is set within a richly experiential cultural space, where people not only savor the flavor but also connect with spiritual values tied to stillness, harmony and a deeper way of living. There, tea becomes a bridge between people and nature, between the present and memory, helping to bring out the cultural layers of meaning in a familiar local product.

Alongside promoting its intrinsic values, DoiDep has gradually expanded exchanges with the world's major tea cultures, such as Taiwan, Japan and China. Through activities such as Tea Connect and CEO 500 Tea Connect within the framework of the 2025 Autumn Economic Forum, tea has been used as a soft means of communication, helping to create a space that connects culture and the economy. This approach shows how cultural identity can be leveraged to take part in external relations flexibly and effectively.

Another notable milestone was the company's role in developing and organizing World T.E.A Fest 2025 in Lam Dong. Spanning nearly a month, this series of events brought together a wide range of activities, from exhibitions and conferences to cultural exchange programs. By helping to create a shared space for the tea industry, DoiDep has shown that it goes beyond the role of a production and trading business, aiming to help build an ecosystem and raise the standing of Vietnamese tea in international markets.

This approach was further reflected at the Xuan Que Huong 2026 (Homeland Spring) program, where the “Ngu Thuc Dai” space offered the overseas Vietnamese community an artistic tea experience. In this space, tea was not just a drink but a way of evoking one's roots, helping to strengthen emotional bonds and national cultural identity.

Looking more broadly, DoiDep's story offers food for thought for building Vietnamese brands in a new era. To develop sustainably, a brand cannot rely on its products alone, much less depend entirely on marketing communications. What matters is the ability to integrate economic value with cultural value, and business interests with community interests.

Vietnam Brand Day is therefore not only an occasion for celebration but also an opportunity to recognize the quiet yet persistent efforts to build Vietnamese value. From cups of tea that may seem simple, DoiDep's journey reveals a composed yet profound approach that helps enrich the image of Vietnamese brands in the eyes of the public at home and abroad.
